The DevSpeak series got its own page on the official Wildstar website today and with the new home there’s a new video, this time on movement.

Movement might initially seem pretty straight forward, but along with the usual WSAD and mouselook the WildStar folks have a few different ideas for their game. Shown in the video are double jump, using the Shift key as an FPS-like toggle for sprinting, and a short, quick dodge that they’re calling “dash”. Each class will also have their own movement skill, such as teleporting, a special leap (shown in the video as a golden animal form), and “tearing a hole in reality to switch spots with a robot”.

In an associated interview with ZAM, Lead Class Designer Hugh Shelton said that WildStar’s movement is “really freeform, moving all over the place. […] One of the things I really enjoy about our game, that is different from other games that I’ve played, is the freeform targeting, and it does slide back into movement.”

Aside from details about movement, a new WildStar video also means new in-game footage for fans to pour over. Attentive viewers at WildStar Central have already spotted a new crafting mod that gives random stats to an item. There’s also a reference to tagging and competing for mining nodes, although it looks like occasionally your competition will be the node itself… or whatever is underneath it.

This video is a fun and informative follow-up to the first DevSpeak on housing, and full of what is rapidly becoming WildStar’s trademark irreverent style. The next one can’t come soon enough!
